Description
Petitioners
Alyne (Aline) Lovel.
Name(s)
Lovel, Alyne (Aline)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Alyne Lovel states that she entered into certain tenements in Clayhanger in Devon as of right and inheritance, and that she was wrongly disseised by the Templars. After the order was abolished she was seised for nine weeks, but William Martyn, justice of the peace, Robert de Stokheye and John de Holeweye expelled these tenements with force, wrongly, and by their letter patent; and they knocked down her door and did other damage to the value of £20. John de Molyns has now entered these tenements, with William's abetment. She has often petitioned the council, but she cannot have a remedy because of their power and maintenance, and she has sued for twenty-six years and more, against the Templars and against them. Robert de Stokheye has imprisoned her for a year, and they wish to bar and remove her from these tenements.
