Nature of request
The merchants of Almain state that John de Bliton, merchant of Lincoln, has complained to the council about a robbery that he alleges was committed against him at sea by people from Eastland, and that a writ was issued in Chancery to the sheriff of Lincolnshire and other sheriffs to attach and arrest merchants of Almain and their goods and merchandise, from Cologne, Lubeck, Hamburg and all Almain, so that their merchandise has been arrested at Boston, and Lynn and at Hull. They request grace and a remedy, as they know nothing of the matter of which John complains, nor are they convicted, and ask that they might have their goods on mainprise to answer to John and others according to law and reason.
Nature of endorsement
Writs are to be issued to the sheriffs of Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and others etc., that the goods of the merchants of Almain arrested at the suit of John de Bliton and of certain others etc. of Lincolnshire etc. are to be released from arrest, and delivered to the same merchants etc., by good and sufficient security to answer to the aforesaid John and his aforesaid colleagues for their wools and other goods taken from them, insofar as it can be found by law and reason that they same merchants are reasonably bound to this.

Note
CCR 1307-13 p.378 is dated 1 October 1311, and represents a later stage in proceedings; however, as it says that the alleged robbery took place on the previous Nativity of John the Baptist (24 June), this petition must date from June-October 1311.
