Nature of request
Robert le Arblaster of London brings a complaint of false imprisonment against Gregory de Rocchesle, formerly Mayor of London, and Stephen de Cornhell and Robert de [Rokesle], Sheriffs of London, in the matter of abetting John de Bernwelle and George de Holm, who attacked him in his house while he was at dinner, beat him, and robbed him, because he did not wish to oblige them. And because of their false complaint he was imprisoned in Newgate, and could only be released by a very heavy mainprise; and before he made satisfaction he was beaten in his house, and it was ruined and robbed. And he was convicted in the Guildhall by Ludgate ward.

Gregory de Rokesley was Mayor of London between 1274 and 1281, and between 1284 and 1285, and Stephen de Cornhill and Robert de Rokesle were Sheriffs of London between 1284 and 1285 but the petition also mentions the testimony of Peter de Champvent, King's Steward: which dates this petition to between 1290 and c. 1292.
