Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/294/14673
Date
[1301-1304]
Description
Petitioners
Richard de Duffeld (Duffield), parson of the church of St Giles, Winchelsea.
Name(s)
de Duffeld (Duffield), Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Winchelsea, [Sussex].
Nature of request
Richard de Duffeld, parson of the church of St Giles, Winchelsea, asks the king to order his bailiffs of Winchelsea to allow the parishioners of St Giles to give the church their tithes of fish, as they did in the time of his predecessor, as the bailiffs, who pay a fixed sum to the king for the town, have appropriated these tithes, claiming that they are the king's right - although the king receives no benefit from them.
Nature of endorsement
The bailiffs are to be ordered to allow him to have the tithes as his predecessors used to have of old, or to be at the next parliament to explain why they have not done so etc.
Note
CPR 1292-1301 p.563 is dated 30 January 1301 (there is also a similar entry, with the wrong diocese, on the same page, dated 29 January), and p.569 is dated 8 February 1301. CPR 1301-7 p.201 is dated 27 November 1303, and p.259 is dated 27 September 1304. This petition would therefore seem to date from 1301-1304.
