Nature of request
John, son of John de Iselbek states that his father died seised of certain tenements in Islebeck and Carlton Miniott, which he held of Warin de Karlton in chief, but that after his death the escheator expelled John and leased those tenements at farm of the king. Thomas de Burgh, the Escheator, then leased them to John de Redinges. The petitioner then brought an assize of novel disseisin against Ingram and John, before William Herle and John de Denom, justices appointed in the county of Yorkshire, and recovered all the lands: but Simon de Grymmesby, now the Escheator, is distraining him for the farm at which Ingram leased the lands. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] Ingram Berler (?).[On dorse] He is to have a writ in Chancery to have the record and process of the assize . . . etc. And if it is found . . . that he recovered . . . [This endorsement may have been deleted]. A writ is to be issued to the justices before whom the assize passed to have the record and process of that assize brought into Chancery etc. And if it is found from that record and process that he recovered his land, he is to be discharged. And he is to have a writ to the Escheator to leave him in peace.
