Description
Petitioners
Prior and brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem (Knights Hospitallers), and Cecily (Cecilia) de Gatesden.
Name(s)
de Gatesden, Cecily (Cecilia)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The Prior and brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and Cecily de Gatesden state that at Michaelmas in the king's seventh year they exchanged lands, that is, Cecily's land of Ilsham in Sussex, for Widmere in the parish of Marlow; and Cecily received £100 for completing this agreement. Because this was done before the statute was made, and because satisfaction was given to the chief lord, that is, to the Bishop and chapter of Chichester, they ask that this exchange might be completed and upheld.
Nature of endorsement
It does not seem to the council that the king should interfere, because they are not held of him without intermediary.
Places mentioned
Iselesham (Ilsham), Sussex
Wythemere (Widmere Farm), [Buckinghamshire]
Merlawe (Marlow), [Buckinghamshire].
People mentioned
