Nature of request
Manent Fraunceis states that the king has often ordered the Treasurer, Barons and Chamberlains of the Exchequer to give him payment or an assignment for £440 owed him for a purveyance made in France for the king's father, but that nothing has been done. Since the king's return from the battle of Berwick to Newcastle, he ordered the Chancellor and Treasurer to examine the business and make an end of it; they have examined it, and agreed on the sum owed Manent, but have done nothing more, because of the death of Robert de Ayleston, who had been ordered to make the payment. He asks that the Treasurer, Barons and Chamberlains might be ordered to give him payment or an assignment, without further delay, so that he is not ruined by his service to the king and his father.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer, Barons and Chamberlains are to be ordered by a writ, reciting the form of the other writ, that, if such a claim was made to them, then, when they have seen the writ previously sent to them and the inquisition of which the petition makes mention, they are to give him payment or an assignment according to the form of his other writ.
