Nature of request
The Prior of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England states that all the lands of his order and of the Order of the Temple in England are given in pure and perpetual alms and in defence of the Holy Land, and that, at the king's parliament in Nottingham, he granted him, in aid of the war in Scotland, 10 men at arms for a quarter of a year at his own expense, who remained, at the prior's expense, for almost three-quarters of a year. He requests a letter under the great seal that this grant will not in future be considered a custom.
