Nature of request
[This petition is damaged, and the right-hand side missing.] William Desmares states that Richard Guesdel, priest of the church of St John in the Isle of Jersey, abandoned his church during the war, and went to live in the power of the [King of France]. Henry de [Cobham], warden of the Isles, made William keeper of this church at the king's command, receiving the issues, and he installed a clerk in the church. But Richard has now re-entered the church by force, and William requests a writ to the bailli of the isle to retain him in his position.
