Description

Occupation
Prior of Watton
Nature of request
The Prior of Watton states that John, his predecessor, and his predecessors, and their feoffors, were seized of thirty acres of moor and turbary in Reedness, of the right of their church, from the time of the Conqueror until Henry de Lascy, late Earl of Lincoln, disseised him of them. After the death of Joan, the earl's widow, who held them in dower, the tenements came into the hand of the king's father, to whom Alice de Lascy, the earl's daughter and heir, released and quitclaimed them. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
Certain people are to be appointed in Chancery to inquire, in the presence of the keeper etc., into the estate that the aforementioned prior has in the aforementioned turbary, and how, and at what time the said thirty acres of turbary came into the hands of Henry de Lascy, and likewise how the same turbary came into the hands of the king, and into all other circumstances necessarily touching this business; and the inquisition on this is to be returned in Chancery, and shown to the lord king.
