SC 8/293/14627
Date
[? 1327-? 1332]
Description
Petitioners
Galhard (Gaillard) de Landiras and Esclarmonde de la Mote, Lady of Landiras, his mother.
Name(s)
de Landiras; de la Mote, Lady of Landiras, Galhard (Gaillard); Esclarmonde
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Galhard de Landiras and Esclarmonde de la Mote, Lady of Landiras, his mother, state that they have lost their land in the Duchy of Guyenne, that is to say in Langon and Landiras, which was worth £200 sterling annually, as Oliver de Ingham and others who have been in those parts know. They request £100 sterling from the bailiwicks of Born and Mimizan annually, until they have recovered the land they have lost in the king's service.
Nature of endorsement
The king has ordained that certain great people will be sent quickly with full power to do the things which are appropriate and profitable for himself and his subjects; and the king will order them that, when they have informed themselves of his losses, they are to give him such recompense as is appropriate and as might reasonably suffice.
Places mentioned
Guyenne, [France]
Langon, [Guyenne, France]
Landiras, [Guyenne, France].
People mentioned
Oliver de Ingham.
Note
From the content, this petition would appear to date from the aftermath of the war of St Sardos and from the reference to Oliver de Ingham, but not as Seneschal of Gascony, probably from 1327-1332, between his two periods of service as Seneschal.
