Peter (Pey) de Mortelac states that the Earl of Kent gave him the lands of Raymond Arnold de le Gout, the king's rebel, in compensation for his, which he has lost in the king's service in Gascony, and asks the king to confirm this gift.

The king has ordained that certain great people will be sent quickly with full power to do the things which are appropriate and profitable for himself and his subjects; and the king will order them that, when they have informed themselves of his losses, they are to give him such recompense as is appropriate and as might reasonably suffice.
