Description
Petitioners
John Vyncent (Vincent), clerk.
Name(s)
Vyncent (Vincent), John
Addressees
[John Stratford], Archbishop of Canterbury & Chancellor of England.
Occupation
clerk
Nature of request
John Vyncent makes three requests:1) He states that he was removed from the office of receiver of Ponthieu by the Bishop of Norwich, and this office given into the keeping of William de Borden, comptroller, and Arnold de Paine, and then, when the Bishop had left for England, the Seneschal ordained that Arnold should collect the monies and do justice to the debtors, receiving the full wages of the receiver, and that William should keep the counter; but he can do nothing with regard to the office, which is in a perilous state. He requests a commission to William as receiver; and that he, John, might be discharged from the time when the commission was made to William and Arnold.2) He states that he and William have been given a day to account at York, at the quinzaine of Easter, and that they did not know this before last Thursday. He asks, on behalf of them both, that this may be put off until the quinzaine of Trinity, as, even with a good sea, they would not have time to travel to Ponthieu and return.3) He states that great arrears are owed to the king in Ponthieu, but he cannot levy them because the Seneschal has forbidden it. He asks that he might have power to levy them.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the first: the king will ordain his receiver and the said John will be discharged. With regard to the second: he is to have respite until the nativity of St John. With regard to the third: the Seneschal is to be ordered to aid him to levy the arrears, and on this matter the receiver is also to be ordered that, when he has received the name of the debtors, he is to have the monies due levied.

Note
From the hand, the addressee would appear to be John Stratford, Archbishop of Canterbury 1333-1348, and Chancellor 1330-1334, 1335-1337, and April-July 1340. This petition would therefore seem to date from 1333-1334, 1335-1337, or 1340.
