Description
Petitioners
Gentlemen of Gascony.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The gentlemen of Gascony state that they have letters for various debts owed them by the king, from the Earl of Lincoln, the king's lieutenant in Gascony during the war, from Richard Fitz John, from Ralph Basset and from Roger la Warre, then captains of Bourg and Blaye, and from Nicholas Baret, the king's clerk there; and also for other debts for their wages during the truce, from Guy Ferre, then king's lieutenant in Gascony, and from John de Sandale and Thomas de Cantebrugg, the king's clerks. They ask the king to have consideration for their long delay, and to order that they might swiftly be paid.
Nature of endorsement
The letters are to be examined by John de Sandale and Thomas de Cantebrugg, and kept by them to deliver to the Treasury; and they will have other letters under the great seal to be paid by the Constable of Bordeaux from the issues of Gascony; and the said John de Sandale is charged, on behalf of the king, with telling the Chancellor to have such letters as are ordained by the king and council in the aforesaid form made.

Note
A note at the beginning of SC 8/291, signed R. L. Atkinson and dated 9 March 1932, states, 'Nos 14511-50 and 14551-80 in the next file appear to form an original file, or at any rate a conjunction of some duration. Such as can be dated appear to belong to the year 1305, or thereabouts, so the remainder may provisionally be regarded as belonging to this date'. This petition is therefore given a tentative date of 1305. From the endorsement, it is clearly contemporary with SC 8/292/14573 and SC 8/292/14577.
