He asks that counsel and aid might be taken and that he might be paid this sum, as his clients are greatly troubled, and have incurred great expenses about the payment of their money. He adds that he petitioned at York on this matter, and was told to come to London at Hilary, and the king would take counsel with the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer about payment.
Nature of endorsement
John de Drok' has been ordered to complete the payment from the first moneys that he receives from the tenth after Easter, and that he is to receive the letter and keep it with him. And the king's letter is to be sent to John on this.

Note
A note at the beginning of SC 8/291, signed R. L. Atkinson and dated 9 March 1932, states, 'Nos 14511-50 and 14551-80 in the next file appear to form an original file, or at any rate a conjunction of some duration. Such as can be dated appear to belong to the year 1305, or thereabouts, so the remainder may provisionally be regarded as belonging to this date'. This petition is therefore given a tentative date of 1305. This would agree with the reference to the late Bishop of London, who would be Richard Gravesend, who died on 9 December 1303. He and Bartholomew de Ferentyn, canon of London, are mentioned as collectors of the tenth for three years in England imposed by the pope in CCR 1302-7 p.9 (26 January 1303).
