Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/292/14556
Date
[? 1305]
Description
Petitioners
Gombaut de Fontgaban, esquire.
Name(s)
de Fontgaban, Gombaut
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Saint-Emilion, [Guyenne, France]
Puynormand, [Guyenne, France]
Villefranche-de-Lonchat, [Guyenne, France].
Nature of request
Gombaut de Fontgaban states that he has lands and rents in Saint-Emilion, but that these rents have become mixed up with rents that the king has there, and he is being greatly harmed by this, to the sum of £200 of Bigorre annually. He asks that he might be given rents in Puynormand and Villefranche, where he has his other lands, or closer to Saint-Emilion, wherever it please the king, in exchange. And he asks that the Seneschal and Constable might be ordered to carry this out.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal and Constable are to be ordered to advise themselves concerning the profit that the king will be able to have, and to advise the king.
Note
A note at the beginning of SC 8/291, signed R. L. Atkinson and dated 9 March 1932, states, 'Nos 14511-50 and 14551-80 in the next file appear to form an original file, or at any rate a conjunction of some duration. Such as can be dated appear to belong to the year 1305, or thereabouts, so the remainder may provisionally be regarded as belonging to this date'. This petition is therefore given a tentative date of 1305. There are unrelated mentions of the petitioner in Roles Gascons, vol. II no.1000 (13 June 1289), no.1002 (same date), no.1095 (27 June 1289) and no.1139 (26 June 1289).
