Description
Petitioners
Bidau (Vidal) Brane.
Name(s)
Brane, Bidau (Vidal)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Bidau Brane states that he has the king's letters patent, sealed with the great seal, for him to be put in possession of a suitable bailiwick, and specifically, for him to be assigned the bailiwick of Labouheyre and Born at farm; but he was expelled by the French when they took seisin of the Duchy of Guyenne, and imprisoned. He asks that he might be returned to the bailiwick, in the manner that he held it before, and that he might hold it until he is paid the £335 sterling that the king owes him.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the bailiwick: the Seneschal and Constable are to be ordered to see the letter he has from the king, and, if they find him suitable, they are to let him have the bailiwick on good security, paying as much as another would give; and he is to hold it during good behaviour. With regard to the debt that the king owes him through his letters: the letters are to be examined by John de Sandale and Thomas de Cantebridgge, and they are to be returned and sent to the Treasury; and then he is to be given letters under the great seal to be paid from the issues of Gascony by the Constable of Bordeaux.
