Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Arnold William de Marsan and Perrot de Gavastun, sons of Arnold de Gavastun, late knight of Gascony, make three requests:1) They request letters to the Seneschal, to take into the king's hand the castles of Louvigny, Hagetmau, Montgaillard and Saint-Loubouer, with their appurtenances, as they were before the war when my lord de Haveringg delivered the Duchy of Guyenne to the King of France at the king's command.2) They ask that the testament of their mother, the Lady de Marsan, might be carried out.3) They ask that the arrears of the issues of these castles since the Duchy of Guyenne was delivered to the king might also be taken into the king's hand.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal is to be ordered to make the parties agree if he can. And if not, he is to put the lands and castles into the state in which they were before the war, and then do justice to the parties.

Note
A note at the beginning of this file, signed R. L. Atkinson and dated 9 March 1932, states, 'Nos 14511-50 and 14551-80 in the next file appear to form an original file, or at any rate a conjunction of some duration. Such as can be dated appear to belong to the year 1305, or thereabouts, so the remainder may provisionally be regarded as belonging to this date'. This petition is therefore given a tentative date of 1305. Malcolm Vale discusses this petition on p.219 and p.225 of The Angevin Legacy and the Hundred Years War, 1250-1340 (Oxford 1990).
