Nature of request
Arnold William de Vinyoles states that he has served the king well and loyally throughout the war in Gascony, and that because of this service, the king's enemies burnt down his house, carried off his goods, and destroyed his lands. He requests compensation for these losses. He also requests payment or assignment for his wages in a suitable place in Gascony, asking for the prevote of Saint-Sever, the bailiwick of Bonnegarde and Auribat, with their appurtenances, or the bastides of Lias d'Armagnac and Arouille, with their appurtenances, paying the customary farm for this, so that, if it is not possible for him to be fully paid at present, he might be assigned his payment in one of these places. And as his letter is pledged in London for 11 marks sterling, he asks that he might have payment.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the bailiwick, the Seneschal is to be ordered to provide him with a bailiwick suitable for his rank.With regard to the debt that the king owes him, he is to abide by the response made to the proctors of the gentlemen of Gascony.
