Nature of request
Vigorous de Gascoyne states that he has served the king loyally, on foot and on horseback, during the war in Gascony and before, and has lost one of his limbs in this service. He then came to England to seek the grace of God and of the king, and the king granted him 4d. daily and a robe worth 1 mark. But his letters were made out for 3d. only, and now, at Easter in the king's thirty-third year, he has for six years received only the 3d. and a robe. He requests the king's sustenance in his own land of Gascony, as he has no land, tenements or rent, and cannot live without the king's aid. He also requests the king's help in discharging a debt of 62s. in London, for robes, his chamber, and other things.
