Description
Petitioners
Arnold (Arnaut) Oudayn (Audoin) of Bourg-sur-Gironde.
Name(s)
Oudayn (Audoin), Arnold (Arnaut)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Arnold Oudayn states that when he was in the king's service during the war, the King of France seized his land and gave it to Amaubin Taris, who built a mill on it. Now the land has returned to the king's hand, and, as he has returned everyone's land, Arnold has recovered his land together with the new mill. But the Mayor of Saint-Emilion, at the command of the Count of Savoy, has disseised him of his land, without summoning him to justice, because of this mill, and it is still in the king's hand. Arnold asks that the Mayor and Prevot of Saint-Emilion might be ordered to return him to his seisin of the lands and mill and to uphold him in them, as he is ready to do justice to anyone who wishes to demand it, according to the law and custom of the land.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal is to be ordered to have his things returned to him, and to maintain him according to the ordinance of the peace, and to do justice to him.

Saint-Emilion, [Guyenne, France].

Note
A note at the beginning of this file, signed R. L. Atkinson and dated 9 March 1932, states, 'Nos 14511-50 and 14551-80 in the next file appear to form an original file, or at any rate a conjunction of some duration. Such as can be dated appear to belong to the year 1305, or thereabouts, so the remainder may provisionally be regarded as belonging to this date'. This petition has therefore given a provisional date of 1305. Malcolm Vale discusses this petition on p.219 of The Angevin Legacy and the Hundred Years War, 1250-1340 (Oxford 1990).
