Nature of request
Thomas de Lancastre states that before the beginning of the war, when the Vicomte of Fronsac surrendered Fronsac to the King of France, he loaded a small boat ('farcost') with herring at Bordeaux, to travel to Libourne, and it was robbed in the Dordogne. Opposite Fronsac, by malefactors who were then in the castle on behalf of the King of France. Then, when the land was in the hand of the King of France, Thomas was exiled by the French, and had to abandon his wife and children, who then died, as John de Haveringe can attest, and John de St John knows well. After that he served the king in Gascony throughout the war, without receiving any wages for himself or for two servants. He requests some service or bailiwick in a castle or good town in Gascony, so that he might support himself and recover his losses; and he requests some compensation for his expenses in the king's service.
