Description
Petitioners
William (Guilhem) de Laur, citizen of Bayonne.
Name(s)
de Laur, William (Guilhem)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
William de Laur states that he built a house in Bayonne, partly on his own land and partly on land belonging to his late wife, and it was agreed and put in charter before he built it that no-one except him would have any share in this building during his lifetime. After his wife's death, while William was in England at Boston, in the king's service, Bidau de Artigosse, his late wife's nephew, entered the house and expelled William and his people. The king has previously sent a writ to the Mayor and jurats of Bayonne to maintain William in his possession of this house; he now asks that another writ might be sent, ordering them to return him to his possession.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal is to be ordered to do justice, calling the parties before him.
Places mentioned
Bayonne, [Guyenne, France]
Seint Botolf (Boston), [Lincolnshire].
People mentioned
Bidau (Vidal) de Artigosse, nephew of William de Laur's wife.
Note
A note at the beginning of this file, signed R. L. Atkinson and dated 9 March 1932, states, 'Nos 14511-50 and 14551-80 in the next file appear to form an original file, or at any rate a conjunction of some duration. Such as can be dated appear to belong to the year 1305, or thereabouts, so the remainder may provisionally be regarded as belonging to this date'. This petition is therefore given a tentative date of 1305.
