Nature of request
John de Luc states that the king gave him the office of comptroller of the Mayoralty of Bordeaux, which he held for more than three and a half years before the war in Gascony, when he was expelled by the French. He asks that he might be reinstated, as he has long served the king, and the office was given to him for term of life for his service.
Nature of endorsement
Gascony.Entered.The Seneschal is to be ordered to allow him to remain in office according to the king's letter, if he finds him to be suitable, or if he has not done anything to prevent his occupying it.
Note
Roles Gascons, vol. III, no.1926 is dated 26 June 1291, and no.4722 is dated 30 March 1305. This may be the office mentioned here, although it is not certain, but in any case the petition, like others in this file, is likely to date from this year.
