burgess of Bayonne
Nature of request
Peregrine de Ryoun states that he and Peter Arnold de Luc, his cousin germain, and their ancestors have always held two towers in Bayonne, with an oven and two sites where there used to be houses which were burnt down, until lately, when John de Vile, burgess of Bayonne, occupied them wrongly by means of a false claim made to the king; but despite this, Peregrine still pays the rent for them. When the king and his council understood this, he ordered Guy Ferre, his lieutenant in the Duchy of Guyenne, or his lieutenant, to discover the truth and to do justice. The lieutenant's lieutenants did this, and discovered that the truth was as Peregrine said, and they informed the king by letters, which were delivered to the wardrobe until the next parliament. He asks that he and his parcener might have their inheritance, and that the king's lieutenant in Gascony might be ordered to put them in seisin. He has previously presented this petition to the council, and been told that the king can do nothing until he learns what has become of John de Vile; he now says that John's proctor said that he was one of the allies of the King of France.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal of Gascony is to be ordered to deliberate on the contents of the petition with his council, and to do what justice demands, if this is possible; and if he should find some obstacle which prevents this being done, he is to inform the king of this obstacle.Enrolled.
