Nature of request
Letter of testimonial, dated the Thursday after St Bartholomew 1299, from Raymond Durand de Vylle, Mayor of Bayonne, enclosing another letter, dated 16 November 1296, in which John de Barau and Bernard du Gayllard of Biarritz testify that they were in Bermeo fifteen days before the previous All Saints, when William Arnold de Bergeis presented a letter to the aldermen there from the community of Bayonne, asking them to order Nicholas Peridz to return a ship charged with corn stolen by him from William Arnold, and to do justice, and that, when Nicholas refused to do justice, the aldermen said that they could do nothing further.
