Description
Petitioners
Adam de Burgoine (Burgundy), citizen of London.
Name(s)
de Burgoine (Burgundy), Adam
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Adam de Burgoine, petitioning on behalf of the king and of his merchants and mariners, states that he had loaded a ship of Tynemouth with wines at Enaunde, to take to London, but the ministers of the King of France, between Michaelmas and Martinmas last, arrested the wines and imprisoned his people, because of a process made by the King of France and his Governor of the Agenais and Gascony concerning an alleged robbery by English people in the Gironde, where the King of England has all manner of justice. His people were kept in prison for 40 days, and they have kept his wines to the value of £100 sterling; and he has had further damages to the sum of £100 sterling and more. He has heard wise people say that this was done specifically to annoy the king and his people and merchants in Gascony, and is concerned about the consequences of such actions. He asks that people might be assigned to examine the process, of which he has a transcript, and to ordain a suitable remedy.
