[The ends of the lines of this petition are illegible] William Farendon, Constable of Bordeaux, petitions concerning accusations of corruption in the office of Constable of Bordeaux, concerning his former lieutenant, John Mitford, and Simon Sproteley, lieutenant of the comptroller of Bordeaux. He requests letters patent to arrest them, and to render their accounts before the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer in London, and that William Hunt, English sergeant-at-arms, might be assigned to go with him to arrest John and Simon, as they will otherwise obey no command.
Nature of endorsement
On 24 July in the eleventh year etc. at Westminster, present in the council there my lord the Prince, the Bishops of Bath and of St David's, the Earls of Arundel and of Warwick, the Chancellor, the Treasurer, Lord Burnell, and the Keeper of the Privy Seal, it was agreed that a commission should be issued under the great seal to the William Hunt mentioned here, to arrest John de Mitford mentioned here and John his son, and to bring them into the king's presence to render account before the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer for the time when they had the receipt of the king's money under William Farendon, formerly Constable of Bordeaux. And a writ should be sent to the Simon Sproteley mentioned here to cross the sea to attest to the truth concerning the aforesaid account.
