Description
Petitioners
Barrau de Cayron, burgess of Agen.
Name(s)
de Cayron, Barrau
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[This petition is badly damaged] Barrau de Cayron, burgess of Agen, makes several requests:1) He states that, because of the service he did the king, Oliver de Ingham, Seneschal of the Duchy of Guyenne, granted him an annual sum from the Treasury of the Agenais until he had recovered his lands. He asks that this gift might be confirmed.2) He states that to come into the king's service he left . . . his wife, his children, his brother, and part of . . . requests the office of keeper of the castle of . . ., which is currently in the hands of the French, for term of life, in compensation for his service and his losses.3) The Seneschal and his lieutenant gave him . . .. He asks that in the case where he will not be able to take possession of it . . .4) [A fourth petition is now largely illegible. All that can be read is a mention of the Seneschal and his lieutenant, and of the loss of his goods.]
Nature of endorsement
[On face, to second] He is to have the keepership, as . . .[Any responses to other petitions are now illegible.][None on dorse]
Places mentioned
Agen, [Guyenne, France]
Guyenne, [France].
People mentioned
Oliver de Ingham, Seneschal of the Duchy of Guyenne (Seneschal of Gascony).
Note
The grant of the keeping of Marmande castle, made to the petitioner for term of life on m.30 and m.22 of C 61/53, and for ten years on m.26, is dated 6 June 15 Edward III (1341), and the grant of £300 annually on m.30 is dated 5 June; from the wording, they seem very likely to be in response to the second and first of these petitions. This would seem to agree with the mention of Oliver de Ingham, Seneschal of Gascony 1326-1327 and 1332-1343.
