Description
Petitioners
Raymond William (Ramon Guilhem) de Anlad (Anlede).
Name(s)
de Anlad (Anlede), Raymond William (Ramon Guilhem)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Raymond William de Anlad states that during the first war in Gascony, when Monsieur Charles was besieging La Reole, he was with the Earl of Kent and held the bastide of Sauveterre-de-Guyenne at farm. For this he owed the Constable £360 of Bordeaux annually, half at Easter and half at All Saints, but he was not able to pay this, as the people of Sauveterre, expecting the imminent arrival of the French, refused to pay. He asks that the Constable might be ordered to offset the money owed for his wages against the first payment, and states that did not hold the town for half the second term, because on St Bartholomew's day the French entered it, robbed him of £200 and killed six of his men The money for this is still owed to him, as can be seen from charters, as the people refuse to pay him because he is of the king's obeissance. He asks that the Constable might be ordered to receive these charters and to acquit him of the sum contained in them.
Nature of endorsement
The Constable of Bordeaux will be ordered that the bills of which mention is made here are to be allowed to him in his account for those things that, through the account, he will owe for the bailiwick, and that, when he has informed himself of the damages that he suffered because of the war in his bailiwick, he is to compensate him for those damages by subtracting what he owes, as is just.
