- Grimoard Cardoun states that when he came to Bordeaux to sell his wines, Berduc called le Bourd of Condom and his companions lay in wait for him and wounded him in the head; and they would have killed him if he had not been aided by others who appeared. Berduc was attached by the Mayor of Bordeaux and made a full confession, stating that he had been paid to kill Grimoard by Guiraut de Cosyn and William de Sovers of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, at the procurement of several burgesses of Villeneuve-sur-Lot who are Grimoard's enemies; and Guiraut confessed this also, at Bordeaux castle, before the Seneschal. Grimoard has often asked Maurice de Berkele, Seneschal of Gascony and Odo de Munentz (?), Mayor of Bordeaux and his lieutenant, to do justice in this matter, but they have refused. He has appealed to the Court of France, but he is the king's man, and does not wish to pursue this appeal, if he can possibly have a remedy from the king's ministers. He asks the king to order the Seneschal and Mayor to give him justice, and to punish the wrongdoers, and that he and his goods might be maintained in the king's protection.
