Description
Petitioners
William Arnold (Guilhem Arnaut) de la Mote (Lamote), Lord of Roquetaillade.
Name(s)
de la Mote (Lamote), Lord of Roquetaillade, William Arnold (Guilhem Arnaut)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
William Arnold de la Mote, Lord of Roquetaillade, makes eight points concerning a truce made at Bordeaux a year before last April, between the Seneschal and council and the king's enemies and rebels of the lordship, land and power of the Lord of Albret and his allies, and of other royal towns, which was greatly to his harm.1) He states that he was not involved, although he had lost most of his inheritance in the king's service.2) He states that when it was extended into May he agreed to observe it only if he could receive redemptions from the Lord of Albret's land, power, lordship and allies as he had been accustomed to do.3) He states that during May these people refused to pay the redemptions, and that they killed one of his men and captured another, took his cross-bow, and held him to ransom.4) He states that he showed these things to the Seneschal and council, asking not to be included in any further truces, as they were so harmful to him.5) He states that after the month of May he made an expedition into the lands of the Lord of Albret, seized John de la Roque, proctor of the Lord of Sainte-Bazeille, the king's rebel, and ally of the Lord of Albret, brought him to Roquetaillade and put him to ransom.6) The Seneschal and council ordered him to release this man, saying that the truce had been extended for the month of June, without offering him any compensation for his losses. He refused to do this.7) Because of this, the Seneschal seized all lands and rents belonging to him and his wife in the Bordelais. He has appealed to the king, and asks him to consider his appeal, together with other pertinent articles, to give a hearing to Bernardetz de Lartiga, his esquire, proctor and attorney, and to provide him with a remedy.8) He asks the king to order the Seneschal asking him to deliver all the lands rents and goods that he has seized, together with all the profit he has had from them for two years
