Name(s)
Dartiguelonque (Artiguelongue), Bernard (Bernat)
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
merchant of Bayonne
Nature of request
Bernard Dartiguelonque, merchant of Bayonne, states that a plea between him and Peter del Hospital concerning some money was judged against him. He appealed against this judgment, and pursued this appeal but, through the abetment of Arnold del Case, his adversary, he was wrongly adjudged to have defaulted, despite letters patent from Simon de Montagu, lieutenant of the Seneschal of Gascony, stating that he had not. Bernard then appealed to the king, and put himself under the king's protection, but when he had left to pursue this appeal, the Lord of Blaye, lieutenant of the Seneschal of Gascony, took his ship and his goods, drove his wife and children from his house, and did £100 sterling and more of damage. He asks the king and council to receive his appeal, and to compensate him for his damages and to return his goods to their previous state; and then to give him certain people to hear his case and do justice to him.
Nature of endorsement
Among the appeals. The Seneschal of Gascony or his lieutenant is to be ordered to adjourn the parties to appear before the king in England fully instructed, and to send the process under his seal; and he is to make no innovations, and if any have been made, he is to return them to their previous state.Entered.
