Nature of request
The Mayor and Constables of the staple of Calais state that by the charters of the king's progenitors, confirmed by him, they have been granted power to take and record all recognisances of debts made before them by any persons; and, because it is unclear whether recognisances before mayors and constable overseas are as effectual in all points within the realm of England as recognisances made before the Mayor and Constables of the staple of Westminster, they ask the commons to ask the king, on the advice of the lords spiritual and temporal, to ordain by authority of parliament that all recgonisances of debts made before the Mayor and Constables of Calais should be as effectual and of as much force within the realm as recognisances made before the Mayor and Constables of the staple of Westminster, or before the Mayor and Constables of any other staple within the realm.
