Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Abbot of Mont-Saint-Michel
Nature of request
The Abbot of Mont-St-Michel states that Edward I claimed as a manor against his predecessor the priory of St Clement in Jersey, and it was wrongly taken into his hand at the command of the justices in eyre. The present Abbot has sued to several parliaments of the king's father, and he ordered Henry Spigurnel and his companions, justices in eyre, to do justice. They held an inquisition, which found that the abbot's predecessors had always held the priory until it was taken into the king's hand as he said. He was adjourned before the king, but because of the great disturbances in the land, nothing was done in his time. In the time of the present king he has petitioned parliament on this, and Geoffrey Scrope and his companions have been ordered to examine the records and to amend the errors in them. They have now done this, and he asks that they might be ordered to proceed to a final determination.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ on the contents of the petition to the justices of the pleas of the king etc., to proceed to render judgment, notwithstanding the matter in the other writ etc.Enrolled.Present: J Winter (?) . . . the Archbishop of York, W. de Fresk', R. de Malb', the Abbot of Abingdon, . . . , Robert Baynerd' and other auditors.
