Nature of request
Peter Byger of La Rousselle, burgess of Bordeaux, makes four requests: 1) He states that he has served the king in Scotland and still serves him in Gascony, with ten mounted men at arms and fifty foot soldiers, and has never received any pay, and that he has lost £600 of annual rent in the Agenais and Bazadais, without receiving any compensation. He asks that in compensation for his service and his losses, he and his heirs might hold Corbiac, which he holds at present for £8 of Bordeaux annually, quit of this sum, on payment of a sporle to the lord. 2) He states that Corbiac is pledged for 65 s. of Bordeaux, 40 s. of which is owed to the king. He asks that he and his heirs might be acquitted this sum; and for the sporle. 3) He asks that the Constable of Bordeaux might be ordered to account with him for his wages at a certain level, and to pay him what is due to him. 4) He asks that he might be assigned his wages aginst the toll (peage) of Marmande, which is currently in the hands of the French. And he asks that the Seneschal might be ordered that, when it comes into the king's hand, he is to put him in possession of what is due to him for his wages.
Nature of endorsement

[Not deleted] The Seneschal is to be written to, that if the petition is true [he is to have it], quit of that rent, for term of life.[To second] [Deleted] Coram rege. [Not deleted] If the petition contains the truth, he is to be quit of the 40s. at the king's pleasure.[To third] The Constable is to be written to, to pay him the accustomed wages, and to make payment from the issues of the Duchy.[To fourth, none][None on dorse]

Note
Datable either to 1305, on the basis of Roles Gascons, vol. III no.4739 (30 March 1305) and no.4808 (3 April 1305), or to 1342 on the basis of m.23 of C 61/54 (1 June 1342). A Peter Byger of La Rousselle was dead by 13 August 7 Edward II (1313) (Gascon Rolls 1307-1317, no.1102), but he left a son of the same name (Gascon Rolls 1307-1317 no.1588).From a comparison with SC 8/199/9941, it looks as though they might once have been joined.
