Nature of request
Ellis de Joneston states that he was assigned wages and other costs for the process concerning the Duchy of Guyenne, and that he has accounted in the wardrobe for part of the money he received on loan to cover these wages and costs, but that by an ordinance made in the time of the king's father, the keepers of the wardrobe are discharged of the wages of people employed on foreign business, such as that of the Duchy, and the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer have advised him that he should account with the Constable of Bordeaux. He asks that the writ of the privy seal that the king had sent to the Treasurer, Barons and Chamberlains of the Exchequer to account with him and give him an allowance and payment of his wages, might be re-addressed to the present Constable of Bordeaux or to the person who will be Constable for the time being. And he asks that the Treasurer, Barons and Chamberlains might be ordered to examine the books of the wardrobe and to inform the Constable of the date when Ellis last accounted in the wardrobe and of the form of his account, the sums with which he is charged and the other evidence necessary for him to make a full account with Ellis.
