Description
Petitioners
Peter (Pey), Lord of Pouy in the prevote of Dax.
Name(s)
Lord of Pouy, Peter (Pey)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Peter, Lord of Pouy in the prevote of Dax, makes two requests:1) He states that he has served the king and his father in the war in Gascony, and that because of this, the adherents of the King of France have burnt and destroyed his castles, manors and lands, and stolen his goods, and have done the same to his men, as can be seen from the letters patent of the Seneschal of the Landes and the Constable of Bordeaux. He has fallen into great poverty as a result, and cannot maintain his estate. He asks that, in consideration of his good service and his losses, he might be granted the bailiwick of Brassenx, until he has recovered his losses.2) He also asks that he might have, for term of life, certain rents that the king has from the people of Narbes.
Nature of endorsement
Because the king has understood that a reward has previously been given, both by the king his father, and by their Seneschals of Gascony, the king will shortly send a Seneschal to Gascony with good counsel, who will inform himself of the people's services, and of the losses they have incurred on the king's behalf, and where no reward has been given for good service he will give one, in such a manner that those who have served well will reasonably consider themselves satisfied.
