Date
[c. 1361]
Description
Petitioners
Berard de Granhols the younger.
Name(s)
de Granhols, Berard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Berard de Granhols the younger states that Peter de Granhols his father served the king loyally in his wars, and received no reward except for a mill which the Prince gave him, but Gerald Geubert, of the obeisance of the king of France, held it by force [and might re-take it]. He asks that he might be given the mill, and that the Seneschals of Gascony and Perigord might be ordered by writ to maintain him in it, until he has a final sentence as to his right in it.
Nature of endorsement
It seems to the council that this bill should be enclosed in a writ addressed to the Seneschal of Gascony and Constable of Bordeaux, for them to inquire into the right to the said mill, whether it belongs to the king or to the minor or to his adversary; and they are further to do justice - provided always that they do nothing contrary to the articles comprised in the sworn peace treaty.
Places mentioned
Perigord, [Guyenne, France].
People mentioned
Peter (Pey) de Granhols, father of Berard de Granhols
[Edward of Woodstock], Prince of Wales
Gerald (Geraut) Geubert
[John II], King of France.
Note
The instructions to maintain the petitioner in possession of this mill on m.7 of C 61/74 are dated 12 July 35 Edward III (1361), and would seem to be in response to this petition (Carte, vol. I p.149).
