Description
Petitioners
William (Guilhem) Chaumberleyn (Chamberlain).
Name(s)
Chaumberleyn (Chamberlain), William (Guilhem)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
William Chaumberleyn makes three requests:1) He states that because of his service to the king he has lost all his movable goods in the Agenais and in other places which have been in the power of the king of France since Lord Charles left Gascony, and also all his inheritance, which his father gave to his younger brother because of his service. He asks that he might have the bailiwick of Saint-Macaire, to hold in person or through an attorney, until he has recovered his losses.2) He asks that the Constable of Bordeaux might be ordered to pay him without delay his wages for the keeping of the town of Dunes in Lomagne, and the wages due to him from the time of Oliver de Ingham, formerly Seneschal of Gascony.3) He states that, as he has lost all his possessions as he said above, he has nowhere to live, and asks that he might have the house formerly belonging to Raymond Morleyn, traitor and enemy to the king, in Saint-Macaire, together with certain lands and vineyards belonging to it, as they will otherwise be left vacant.
Nature of endorsement
[On face, to third] The Seneschal is to be ordered to deliver the houses to him as he requests at the king's pleasure, paying their value; and he is to inform the king of their value so that he can further do his will.[On dorse] With regard to the bailiwick of Saint-Macaire, the Constable is to be ordered to inform the king of its value from one time to another, and what the bailiwick is worth now; as clearly as possible, so that the king can further do what he ought.
