Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/289/14428
Date
[1327-c. 1337]
Description
Petitioners
Richard de Haveryng (Havering), formerly Constable of Bordeaux.
Name(s)
de Haveryng (Havering), Richard
Addressees
King.
Occupation
Constable of Bordeaux
Nature of request
Richard de Haveryng states that when he was Constable of Bordeaux in the time of the king's grandfather, he made various payments in part payment of several debts owed by the king, for wages and compensation for lost horses in the time of the war in Gascony, for gifts for good service during the same war, and for loans made for provisions, by view and testimony of the king's Comptroller, and by acquittances attesting these payments. The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer will not allow him these sums in his account for the Duchy of Guyenne, as he cannot show the warrants to make these payments, which remain with those who have not fully been paid. He asks that the Treasurer and Barons be ordered to allow him these sums in his account according to the testimony of the Comptroller and the acquittances, charging those who reasonably ought to be charged.
Nature of endorsement
It seems to the council that it is to be done if it pleases the Chancellor.
Places mentioned
Gascony, [France]
Guyenne, [France].
People mentioned
Edward [I], King of England.
Note
Richard de Havering was Constable of Bordeaux between March 1305 and January 1307. From the mentions of the king's grandfather, however, this petition must date from the reign of Edward III. SC 8/288/14391, which is related, is dated 1337, and this petition probably dates from around the same period.
