Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/289/14424
Date
[? c. 1298]
Description
Petitioners
Arnold Loup (Arnaut Loup) de Til (Tilh).
Name(s)
de Til (Tilh), Arnold Loup (Arnaut Loup)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Arnold Loup de Til states that, when John de St John was Seneschal of Gascony, he ordered by letter that Arnold or his proctor was to receive the tithes and rents of Marensin which belong to the chapter of Dax, in lieu of his prebend of Dax, because he cannot enter the town or enjoy his prebend; and Arnold held these tithes and rents at the time of the armistice and before. He therefore asks the king to order his lieutenant in Gascony to maintain and defend Arnold or his proctor in these tithes and rents.
Nature of endorsement
For the first demand: the king's lieutenants in Gascony are to be ordered to maintain him in the same estate that he was rightly accustomed to have.[Deleted] For the second demand: he is to endure it for the present.
Places mentioned
Marensin, [Gascony, France]
Dax, [Gascony, France].
People mentioned
John de Seint Johan (St John), Seneschal of Gascony.
Note
John de St John was king's lieutenant in Gascony between July 1293 and March 1294. From the content, this petition would seem to date from after the war of 1294-1298. There are mentions of the petitioner in Roles Gascons, vol. III no.3949, dated 27 April 1295, no.4265, dated 6 February 1297, and no.4485, dated 7 May 1297.
