Description
Petitioners
Abbot and convent of Forest-Montiers.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The Abbot and convent of Forest-Montiers in Ponthieu, founded by the kings of France, state that the Counts of Ponthieu gave them certain alms of which their church has been seised from time immemorial, and for which they have charters, but that certain people of Ponthieu are preventing them from receiving these alms, and obstructing them with pleas, to the king's great cost and expense, and to their impoverishment. They ask that a remedy might be ordained, by means of certain persons to be deputed for that purpose, so that, if any fault is found, they might correct it according to law and reason, so that there are no pleas or appeals to the court of France or to other prevotes, giving the king expense, and ruining their church.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal of Ponthieu is to be ordered that, when he has called the parties before him, he is to inform himself concerning the things contained in the petition by the advice of the receiver there; and they are to inform the king on this.
