Description
Petitioners
Otto (Oth, Otho) de Lados, esquire, of Gascony.
Name(s)
de Lados, Otto (Oth, Otho)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Otto de Lados states that because he worked to maintain and promote the king's lordship and his ministers, he is greatly hated by the king's great enemies, and was banished and condemned in the court of France because of it. He was acquitted by the general grace done to the king by the king of France, but because of the malice of the king's enemies this did not take effect: and they have pursued him to the death and continue to do so. They have accused him of a crime of which he is not guilty, and, because he was afraid of being arrested in the power of those who hold the lordship in that country for the Pope's people, who are allied to his enemies, he put himself into the prison of the Count of Foix; before whom he is not accused. His enemies are procuring to have him brought into their power, which will be his death. He asks that the Count of Foix might be ordered to send him to England under safeguard, where he is sure he will be found to be good and loyal, and acquitted of all charges.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal of Gascony is to be ordered to inform himself on the contents of the petition and to inform the king.
