Description
Petitioners
Raymond Arnold (Ramon Arnaut) de Puroil of Gascony.
Name(s)
de Puroil, Raymond Arnold (Ramon Arnaut)
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Raymond Arnold de Puroil states that because he was in the king's service in Gascony with John de Ferreres, the people of the Vicomte d'Orthe robbed him, burnt his houses, killed many of his family, and nearly killed him, all while he was under the king's protection by a letter of Stephen Ferrieu, Seneschal after John de Ferreres. And he lost all he has in the king's service at Stirling [Bannockburn], so that he has nothing on which to live, and he was also imprisoned. He requests a letter to the Seneschal of Gascony to give him compensation for his losses from those who harmed him; and he also asks that he might be the king's sergeant of Dax and Gosse.
Nature of endorsement
[These endorsements are written over others, which have been deleted] With regard to the damages inflicted upon him in Gascony, the Seneschal of Gascony is to be ordered that, when he has heard his complaint, he is to give him swift justice and a suitable remedy with favour.Concerning the damages that he sustained at Stirling, coram rege. With regard to having the bailiwick, it seems to the king's council that it is honourable to order the Seneschal of Gascony to provide him with some sergeanty appropriate for him for his estate; provided that he is suitable for this.
