Description

Name(s)

Addressees

Nature of request
Hugh Oger and Iter Oger, sons of Robert Oger, knight, of Saintonge, state that Oliver de Yngham, formerly Seneschal of Gascony assigned to their father, and to them, 10s tournois daily from the issues of the Duchy, in recognition of their father's service and in compensation for his lands which were in the hands of the French, until the king had otherwise ordained for their estate. Their father then died in the king's service at Talmont, when it was besieged by the French. Since their father's death, they have always been in the king's service and obeisance, and have received no compensation for the lands and rents they have now lost for more than seven years. They ask that they might have the assignment of 10s. daily, until he has otherwise ordained for them, or until they have recovered their lands; and that the Constable of Bordeaux might be ordered to pay this to them, and also to account with Hugh for these 10s. since the death of their father, and to pay them what is due to them.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege. The Seneschal and Constable are to be ordered that, if this is the case, he is (sic) to give them aid for their sustenance, according to what they see is to be done.

Duchy [of Guyenne (Aquitaine), France]
Talmont-sur-Gironde, [Saintonge, France].
People mentioned
Robert Oger, knight, of Saintonge
Oliver de Yngham (Ingham), Seneschal of Gascony.
Note
Oliver de Ingham was Seneschal of Gascony for the second time between June 1332 and July 1343. If he is no longer Seneschal, and made an assignment in compensation for lands which have been lost for seven years and more, this petition would seem to date from c. 1343-c. 1350.
