Nature of request
Arnold de la Farge states that he and other merchants had loaded a ship of Normandy with white wine for Flanders, and that it was driven into Portsmouth by the weather. There, Stephen Dabindon, the king's butler, took 2 tuns as the king's prise, and allowed them to do as they pleased with the remainder: but when they wished to take their ship to Flanders, the bailiff of Portsmouth would not let them, saying that he had a command that no victuals were to pass out of England. They request a writ to the bailiff to allow them to pass with their merchandise to where they can best profit from it.

Dated to 1316-1325 with reference to Stephen de Abingdon, who is mentioned as being appointed to be chief butler in CPR 1313-17 p.520 (21 July 1316), and who is still the king's butler on 21 August 1325 (CPR 1324-7 p. 166) but who has been replaced by Benedict de Folsham by 16 October in that year (CPR 1324-7 p.184).
