Nature of request
John de Hildeslegh, clerk, staying in Gascony on the king's business, makes two requests:1) He states that wages of 1 mark a day are ordained for him, and asks that this might be increased to such a sum as will allow him to maintain himself, taking into account the cost of victuals in Gascony.2) He states that he was sent to the court of France on the king's business, and stayed there for 36 days, from 16 August to 14 September (sic), but was paid wages only for 6 days; but afterwards the Chancellor and Treasurer sent a warrant to the Constable of Bordeaux to pay him £10 for the remaining 30 days. He asks that he might be fully paid, and asks that a warrant might be sent to the Constable to pay him his wages and what the king and council ordain by way of increase.
