Nature of request
Fortaner de Lescun states that when John Darcy the kinsman was in Gascony with a commission to retain men for the king's service, he retained Fortaner with 50 men-at-arms and 500 foot sergeants, at a fee of £100 sterling annually for term of life, for which he has letters, sealed with the seals of John Darcy and the Constable and confirmed by the king in Brabant; but he has never received any of this money. He asks that all his arrears might be paid here, as there is no money to pay him overseas, and he has served in the Gascon wars at his own cost.

Note
Dated to c. 1342 with reference to SC 8/247/12348 and SC 8/289/14415. The petitioner is mentioned in CCR 1341-3 p.587, dated 24 September 1342, which seems perhaps to be a later response to SC 8/247/12348.
