Description

Isarn de Lane Plan (Lanplan, Laneplan), Lord of Lalanne, sergeant-at-arms.
Name(s)
de Lane Plan (Lanplan, Laneplan), Lord of Lalanne, Isarn
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Lalanne, [Gascony, France]
Bayonne, [Gascony, France]
Gascony, [France].
Nature of request
Isarn de Lane Plan states that in the past the Seneschal of Gascony and the people of Bayonne had decided to create a bastide at Lalanne, that would be very profitable to the king and to the people; but that because of the wars in Gascony this was never done. He asks that the Seneschal and Constable might be ordered to investigate whether it would be to the profit of the king and the people to create a bastide in this place, where Isarn is prepared to receive the king in pareage, and if they find that it would be, to create the bastide; or if they find that it would be more to the king's advantage for the bastide to be wholly his, that the Seneschal and Constable might be ordered to give Isarn land of similar value elsewhere in the Duchy in exchange.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal and Constable are to be ordered to advise themselves and to inform the king.
Note
Tentatively dated to c. 1332 with reference to SC 8/289/14419, SC 8/290/14498 and SC 8/290/14499, all of which are dated to around that time. A date early in the reign of Edward III would agree with the hand and language.
